Christine is the creator of Tapatak Oz - the recently launched series of instructional tap dance DVDs which is taking Australia by storm and being hailed as one of the most comprehensive and easy to use tap systems of its kind!
Having studied as a child with her mother Lynette Denny, she then won a place at The Doreen Bird College of Performing Arts in Sidcup, UK, where she gained teaching diplomas in classical, modern and tap with the ISTD before returning to Sydney.
A well known figure in the Australian Tap Community for the past 20 years, she has established a recognizable tap style while working with students at many of the country’s most prestigious performing arts institutes including Brent St, ED5, The McDonald College and NIDA, teaching hundreds of students each week.
In demand as a freelance choreographer and teacher with Tapatak Oz, Christine conducts master classes and creates routines in her ever popular style of tap, all over Australia - as well as advising teachers on ‘how to teach tap’. Over the years she has gained a reputation for her unique ability to pass her knowledge, tapping skills and rhythms clearly to students, using teaching methods she has developed and perfected over the years.
As a dance adjudicator she has travelled extensively visiting Perth, Launceston, Brisbane, Adelaide, Cairns, Leeton, Grafton, The Gold Coast and Redcliffe to name a few.
Being an accomplished drummer, Christine played with a number of Sydney bands, before being inspired to combine tap dance with percussion in 2004 to create Rhythm Works Oz, her tap ensemble of predominantly female tappers who work corporate events in Sydney – most recently for American client Isuzu! They were also invited to perform at the inaugural Tapworks show, directed by Chris Horsey, Nathan Sheens and Rob Kelly at the Parade Theatres, Sydney in 2007.
As part of Rhythm Works Oz, Christine also conducts rhythm workshops with recycled garbage, designed to inspire creativity and encourage free expression and rhythm within diverse sections of the community. In this role RWO has appeared at Australia Day Celebrations for the past 2 years and has run workshops for corporates, kindergartens, high schools, dance schools, centres for the disabled and the YWCA mentorship programme.
Outside of her own projects Christine was pleased to dance in the Eternity Tap Segment of the Olympic Opening Ceremony in 2000, choreographed by Dein Perry and work on the sound recording for this event.
Christine has this year joined the team at Australia’s Dance Train Magazine writing a regular column called Let’s Talk Tap and is also one of the bloggers for the new on line dance magazine-Dance Life.
Currently she is launching Tapatak Oz throughout Australia with free information events in each capital city. The Melbourne Launch will be on Monday 20th October at Jason Coleman’s Ministry of Dance in North Melbourne.
