Rachel Cusack started tap dancing at the age of 4 along with jazz, contemporary and classical ballet. In 2002 she “came home” concentrating all her energy on tap and commencing study with Grant Swift. Her hard work and talent would see her progress to troupe rehearsals within a year and by 2005 she was a regular in the Swift Rhythm Hoofers starting lineup. With the Hoofers she has performed at
numerous community and corporate events including Moomba, Melbourne International Arts Festival, The Famous Speigeltent, Royal Children’s Hospital, Channel 9’s The TODAY show, Ausdance Awards and at the opening of the St Regis Hotel in Singapore. In 2005 and then again in 2006, Rachel performed with the Swift Rhythm Hoofers at the Melbourne International Tap Festival. In 2007 she was invited to be a headline artist in Shonah Honeyhill Sonko’s production of “Sammi D – A JazzTap Musical”. Rachel has studied with Brenda Bufalino, Jason Samuels Smith, Dormeshia Sumbry-Edwards, Roxane Butterfly, Charles Goddertz, Margaret Morrison and Karen Calloway Williams amongst others. In 2004 she traveled to the New York City Tap Festival and was inspired by live performances and jams with some of the hottest hoofers on the planet including Savion Glover, Jimmy Slyde, Jason Samuels Smith and Dormeshia Sumbry Edwards. In 2005 and 2006 Rachel was instrumental in
organising the Melbourne International Tap Festival where she now serves on the Advisory Board. As a teacher, performer and supporter of tap dance Rachel Cusack is a positive force bringing her own voice to the message of tap.
